Andy Burnham sends Everton title message following Sunday’s PL results
Mayor of Greater Manchester and Everton fan Andy Burnham has declared that the Blues are still in the title race after Liverpool’s draw with Manchester United on Sunday.
The score remained 0-0 at Anfield which has huge ramifications for the title race with as many as seven teams still hunting the Premier League trophy.
Everton are one of these clubs and if they win their game in hand on their city rivals then the Toffees will leapfrog Jurgen Klopp’s men and fly into the top four, just two points off the current leaders.
Following the draw on the opposite side of Stanley Park, Burham tweeted, “Everton are still in this title race” followed by a winking emoji.
As well as there being a tongue in cheek element to this message it would be wrong to rule the Toffees out of the title race and if the club had won some of their earlier games this season then they would be clear at the top of the table.
Those losses against Newcastle and Southampton along with the draw against Burnley are even more disappointing now when you look at where we could be in the league.
There is real optimism at Goodison Park following the phenomenal win away at Wolves last week with the result keeping the Blues’ top-four hopes alive.
But why stop there?
This season, top clubs are dropping plenty of unexpected points with Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham all sliding down the table in recent weeks.
If we can put a few more wins together and win vital upcoming clashes against Leicester and Man United then there is no reason why we can’t push for the title.
Of course, the primary objective has to be securing Champions League football and if that is achieved then it will still be an extremely successful season for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
Let’s see where we are in a few weeks and let’s see who drops points in that time.
If we don’t then things could be looking very rosy at Goodison.
We are all beginning to believe that Mayor Burnham’s assessment is correct.
