‘I never accepted’ – Everton’s Digne explains how he overcame recent injury blow
Everton defender Lucas Digne has lifted the lid on his recovery from an injury that was meant to keep him out for three months.
After damaging his ankle ligaments in November, Digne wasn’t due to be fit until February but he came back in early January for the FA Cup clash against Rotherham.
Digne has explained that he never accepted this timeframe as he worked as hard as possible to limit his time on the sidelines.
Digne told GOAL, “In my mind, I never accepted to be out for two or three months.
“I was tackled from behind in training and was very unfortunate. I know that a fractured ankle and torn ligaments are potentially a very bad injury, but in my mindset, it was not.
“I always thought that this would not be a big mountain I had to climb, just a little hill, where I could run to the top. And when you set your mind to do something, then your body gets stronger, at least I believe that.”
This shows an unbelievable mindset from the Blues favourite as he simply didn’t let a bad injury keep him down.
Since Digne came back he has been brilliant and he excelled on the wing in the recent 2-1 win over Wolves, showing his versatility.
We love him at Goodison Park and comments like these will only endear himself to the fans further as the Frenchman continues to impress.
When fit, he is one of the first names on the teamsheet and rightfully so.
Digne is one of the best attacking outlets on the left-hand side in the top five European leagues.
According to Wyscout, Digne has been averaging 6.32 crosses per 90 mins this season with only Borna Sosa of Stuttgart and Filip Kostic of Frankfurt bettering this.
In any case this means that Digne attempts more crosses than anyone else in the Premier League from the left-hand side which has led to the Frenchman picking up five assists in nine Premier League games this season.
Long may his form and fitness continue.
In other Everton news, the Blues have reportedly joined the chase for Danny Ings.
