'A tough game' - Exclusive: Campbell predicts Everton v Newcastle

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes that Everton will beat Newcastle United when the Magpies travel to Goodison Park at the weekend.

Steve Bruce’s side have lost their last six Premier League games and are winless in 11 in all competitions.

Despite this, Campbell is predicting a tough game for the Blues as Carlo Ancelotti’s side look to follow up their midweek draw against Leicester with a win.

Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “You’ve got to fancy Everton.

“Although Newcastle beat Everton up at St James’ Park earlier in the season. Obviously, they’re going through some difficulties right now.

“The Blues are flying high so you expect an Everton win. It’ll be a tough game but I think the home side will win 3-1.”

The Magpies won 2-1 in this season’s reverse fixture as goals from Callum Wilson were enough to see them over the line despite a late charge from the Blues.

It looks unlikely that there will be a repeat of this result at the weekend with the Toon a shadow of the team they were when they beat us at St James’.

Everton have problems heading into the game following Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Leicester.

Jordan Pickford had a shocker as he couldn’t keep out Youri Tielemans’ long-range effort despite it looking like an easy save for England’s number one.

Pickford was dropped for the trip to Tyneside earlier this season and we wouldn’t be surprised to see the same thing happen this weekend as once again he has cost us points.

Newcastle won’t produce as much attacking threat as the Foxes but with Pickford, all it takes is one relatively well-hit effort to beat him when he is at his worst.

We can’t afford to drop points at home to a side in the relegation fight so Robin Olsen may get a chance to show his quality in the Premier League.
