Everton 31y/o set for exit after zero apps in two years – report
Jonas Lossl is set to leave Everton to rejoin former club FC Midtjylland after making a grand total of zero appearances at Goodison Park.
The 31-year-old moved to the Blues on a three-year deal from Huddersfield Town after their relegation in 2019 to offer back-up to Jordan Pickford.
With Pickford and Robin Olsen firmly established as the top two goalkeepers in the Blues pecking order Lossl has been deemed surplus to requirements.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo Lossl is set to link up with former side FC Midtjylland after Everton reached an agreement on the rest of his 18-month contract that will see him leave Merseyside on a permanent basis.
With the delayed 2020 European Championships taking place this summer Lossl is understood to be keen to gain some more game time to give him the best chance of appearing in them for his country Denmark.
Carlo Ancelotti recently revealed that the club were planning to convert Olsen’s loan deal from Roma into a permanent one which lessens the need for Lossl at the club.
The gloves are off – Pickford v Olsen
There might be certainty of the two top keepers at the club but there is less clarity on the status of both now.
Pickford has established himself as Everton number one since a big-money move from Sunderland in 2017 and was a Premier League ever-present during his first three campaigns at Goodison Park.
However after the arrival of Sweden stopper Olsen last summer his place in the side has been less secure.
He has still played 16 times in the league this season but has been dropped on two occasions with Olsen selected to face Newcastle United and Leicester City during the opening months of the campaign, keeping a clean sheet in the latter while he has also appeared a further three times in cup competitions.
After Pickford’s glaring error against Leicester on Wednesday handed the Foxes a point the spotlight has been shone on him once again with some fans rooting for the inclusion of Olsen once again when they host Newcastle on Saturday lunchtime.
While Lossl leaves for pastures new Pickford and Olsen will continue to battle it out for the Blues number one jersey.
