23y/o Everton outcast set for Celtic loan after making just 4 PL apps – Sky Sports
Jonjoe Kenny is ready to end his Everton misery by joining Celtic on a loan deal until the end of the season, according to Sky Sports.
After making just four Premier League appearances this season Kenny has been deemed surplus to requirements and is heading to Scotland in a bid to revive his career.
Celtic have been in the market for a right-back after selling Jeremie Frimpong to Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in January.
As such Sky Sports report that the Scottish giants are set to sign Kenny on a loan until the end of the season.
It looks to be a deal that suits all parties as it gives the 23-year-old the chance to gain some valuable game-time before everything is reassessed at the end of the campaign.
Kenny has less than 18 months left on his Everton deal [Transfermarkt] and will enter the final year of his contract in the summer which looks like being the last chance to cash in on him if the Blues do decide he has no future at the club.
Time for a fresh start
Kenny is clearly a talented player as proven in his successful spell spent on loan at Schalke in the Bundesliga last season but his progress has been stunted by the level of competition he has faced at Goodison Park.
Everton’s senior right-back is captain Seamus Coleman and he is showing no signs of slowing down despite his advancing years.
He has suffered with injuries this season, though, and Kenny would have been hoping to be his number one deputy.
However that has not transpired with centre-back Mason Holgate being preferred instead, something that has restricted Kenny to just 79 minutes of Premier League action spread across four appearances [WhoScored].
He was on the bench for their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday but has not played in the league since a fleeting substitute outing against Arsenal on December 19 while his only appearance since then was a cameo against Sheffield Wednesday on January 24.
Kenny will now be hoping he can get his career back on track in Scotland with a move to a Celtic side who sit second in the Scottish Premiership but are in freefall after just one win in their last six.
