Harry Maguire sends Man United warning over Dominic Calvert-Lewin in Everton clash

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has delivered his side a warning over Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Toffees number nine started the season in blistering form, bagging ten goals in the opening nine league games.

His goal against Leeds in the week was his first for seven games. Despite his quiet spell, Maguire doesn’t take him lightly.

Whilst speaking to United Review, Maguire said: “In the Premier League, you play against different types of striker week in week out.

“You know every striker is going to bring something different. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses.

“I know Dom from our time with England and he’s very physical and a handful, and we’ll need to be right on our game to keep him quiet.

“If we manage to do that, it will be a big part for us in, hopefully, taking steps towards the victory.

Time to push on

It’s been a mixed start to 2021 for Carlo Ancelotti’s men. The Toffees are yet to win a home game since the turn of the year but have taken maximum points on their travels.

Big performances away to Wolves and Leeds have kept Everton in the hunt for Europe, but Ancelotti will be aware that they need to do more.

Calvert-Lewin, in particular, will be keen to get back on the pitch. He exploded onto the scene this season, already bettering last years tally. He’s on 16 goals in all competitions and will be full of confidence having scored in the week.

His seven-game run without a goal is the worst drought he’s been on since breaking into the Everton side. His 58.33% shot accuracy ranks him second best in Europe’s top five leagues, ahead of Mbappe, Messi and Ronaldo [WyScout].

If Everton are to finish in the European places, the striker will need to find that spark again as the competition in the league is fierce.
