Exclusive: Campbell delivers verdict on King’s Everton arrival

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes that the signing of Joshua King will help Everton to flourish following his deadline day arrival.

King arrived at Goodison Park on deadline day after turning down a move to Fulham and he made his debut just days later against Leeds.

Carlo Ancelotti secured the second striker he desperately needed and former Toffees forward Campbell believes it was a good move from the Blues.

Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “It’s a smart bit of business.

“Teams need good players with quality and anyone who can do a good bit of business right now are going to flourish.

“He’ll be happy to be the understudy to Calvert-Lewin, it also gives Ancelotti the opportunity to play 4-4-2.”

DCL has now had some of the burden taken off him with the arrival of King while the forward also boosts the options across the top line.

King looked bright against Leeds though he didn’t have too much of an impact on the game, though it was his debut and he hadn’t spent much time with his new teammates.

This could’ve been avoided if we had made the move for King earlier in the window but it is a relief that he arrived at all.

Starting the second half of the season with only one forward could have been disastrous but now the risk of one injury derailing our reason has been minimalised.

Hopefully, King can hit the ground running against Manchester United this weekend.

In other Everton news, this Toffees defender has been compared to Rio Ferdinand.
