‘World of good’ – Exclusive: Campbell rates Everton’s decision to loan Gordon

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes that Anthony Gordon’s loan move to Preston will do the Everton youngster the world of good.

Gordon joined Preston on deadline day in a loan deal that will run until the end of the season after finding his first-team opportunities limited this year.

As such a promising young player, Campbell believes that this loan move will help to advance Gordon’s career as he needs regular game time.

Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “Another young player who’s talented and needs game time.

“He needs to know what it’s like week in week out. Playing with knocks and bumps and scrapes.

“We’re talking men’s bumps here, not Under 23s bumps. I think it’ll do him the world of good.”

Gordon has found first-team opportunities more limited than expected this season as he hasn’t made an outing since Boxing Day.

The 19-year-old has bags of potential but he only has three league appearances this season which is hampering his development.

A loan move to the Championship is for the best at this point and hopefully, he can come back ready to challenge for a first-team place next season with valuable experience under his belt.

With hindsight, Gordon should’ve perhaps gone on loan at the start of this season with Carlo Ancelotti having many quality attackers to choose from.

In any case, Gordon has a huge chance to prove himself now and we hope he grabs this opportunity with both hands.
