‘Could be deadly’ – Exclusive: Campbell predicts Everton system change after King arrival

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes that the signing of Josh King could allow Everton to play a new system which utilises the best attacking talents in the squad.

King has made two appearances for the Blues following his deadline day switch to Goodison, coming off the bench in the late stages against Leeds and Manchester United.

Campbell believes that when King is ready to start he will give Carlo Ancelotti the chance to play with two up top which could benefit the existing attackers.

Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “It gives Ancelotti the opportunity to play 4-4-2.

“But not have to put Richarlison through the middle, so he can put Richarlison, who is another goal threat, on the wing in the midfield.

“So that [King signing] could prove to be a key move. I think two guys up top who can score and another threat in Richarlison could be deadly.”

Super Kev clearly knows what he’s talking about when it comes to strikers and we would like to see Ancelotti start with two forwards up top at some point.

We can’t envision a world where Dominic Calvert-Lewin is dropped in favour of King so the former Bournemouth man may start with DCL at some point.

Of course, he may just be being used as back up but with a second capable forward finally at Ancelotti’s disposal, he may opt to use a 4-4-2 system in games where he wants the side to be compact but still have a decent attacking threat.

Perhaps a better-suited system with two forwards would be more of a 4-2-2-2 system with two holding midfielders, two wingers and two forwards.

We have seen The Professor use several systems this season, mainly due to the sheer amount of injuries that we have racked up, but now he has the chance to pick a system that he thinks will get the most out of his squad.

We’d love to see King and DCL start up top together but how realistic that proposition is, we have no idea.
