Garth Crooks names Everton star Calvert-Lewin in team of the week

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a fantastic week in the Premier League in which he scored against Leeds and Manchester United.

The number nine has been recognised for his goalscoring heroics by BBC pundit Garth Crooks, who included him in the team of the week on the BBC Sport website.

Crooks said: “He may have scored his 17th goal of the season against Manchester United – but until last Wednesday when he scored at Leeds, Dominic Calvert-Lewin had been going through a mini-barren spell in the Premier League.

“The Everton striker scored the decisive goal at Elland Raod and salvaged a point in the final seconds at Old Trafford. What a dent it was to Manchester United’s title challenge. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s face at the end of the match was a picture of shock.”

Everton

Back to his best

Calvert-Lewin started the season in blistering form with 14 goals in 13 games in all competitions for Everton.

This run of goals saw him handed his England debut, scoring on his first start at Wembley in a 3-0 win against Wales. He did the same against Ireland as we won 3-0 in November.

The unthinkable then happened. Our number nine went six games without a goal between December 12th and January 24th. Whilst out of form, he picked up a knock in the New Years day defeat to West Ham.

He scored on his return to the first team against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup third round. His goals against Leeds and United have made it three in five since back from injury, and he’ll be hungry for more in the FA Cup tie with Spurs this week.

Overall, he’s registered 58.82% of his shots on target this season. That’s the most in the Premier League and the fourth-highest in Europe’s top five leagues. Despite that blip in December, he’s been on fire this season.

The number nine is the second-highest goalscorer in the top-flight with thirteen, despite that barren run of form. Only Mo Salah has more goals to his name.

Our main man was back to his menacing best this past week. He had 5 shots on goal against Leeds with 80% of target. This was followed by 67% of his shots against United also requiring a save.
