Mark Lawrenson predicts Tottenham to win on penalties v Everton in FA Cup

Mark Lawrenson predicts Tottenham will edge through to the FA Cup quarter-final by defeating Everton in a penalty shoot-out.

The Premier League giants meet in one of the ties of the fifth round. Both sides will be keen to progress and bring some silverware home come May.

Whilst giving his predictions for the BBC, Lawrenson said the thinks the return of Kane could give Spurs the advantage.

“Harry Kane is back from injury to lead Tottenham’s attack – and they really do need him,” said the ex-Liverpool man.

“Everton’s form has, generally, been better in the past few weeks but they have still dropped some silly points at Goodison Park.

“I have a feeling this one will go the distance and will be decided on penalties.”

Lawrenson predicts a scoreline of 1-1 after extra time – Tottenham to win on penalties.

Everton

A battle of wits

Of all the draw, this is probably the most evenly matched fixture. It’s one of four all-Premier League matchups, both sides will see this as a huge opportunity.

After a shaky start to 2021, Everton are now in a healthy league position with just one defeat in their last five games. The Toffees put in a spirited display to come from behind at Old Trafford on the weekend and take a point in the 3-3 draw.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Rodriguez were both on the scoresheet. It’ll be very encouraging for the rest of the squad to see their big hitters finding the target.

Ancelotti was an FA Cup winner in the 2009/10 campaign with Chelsea and will fancy his chances against an inconsistent Spurs side.

They lost three games on the bounce before winning at home to West Brom on the weekend. It was a surprise to see Harry Kane back in the line-up. It was business as usual as he scored his thirteenth league goal of the campaign.

He’s been directly involved in 66.6% of Spurs’ goals in the top-flight this season. The Everton back four will have to be on top form to keep him quiet.

Mourinho did win an FA Cup, also with Chelsea, back in the 2005/06 season. He, like Ancelotti, is desperate to win silverware at his current club and will be taking this tie very seriously indeed.

In other Everton news, this is how Jonjoe Kenny got on in his Celtic debut.
