Robin Olsen wants permanent Everton switch from Roma

Loanee goalkeeper Robin Olsen has confirmed he wants to make his move from AS Roma to Everton into a permanent deal in the summer.

The Swede has made seven appearances for the Toffees in the 2020/21 season, including the last two league games against Leeds and Manchester United.

As reported by to the Liverpool Echo, the Blues are to open talks with Roma over buying Olsen, with the keeper stating he wants to stay long term, too.

He said: “We [Olsen and his family] want to stay, but it’s not me who decides.

“I can only cross my fingers and see what the club says. As a family, we have moved around and feel we are in a good place now.

“We are very happy, so why not stay until it is time to move home to Sweden? That is what we would choose.

“It is easy to say that – but everything needs to be sorted.

“I knew I would have competition with Jordan [Pickford] but I have seen that if I train well, I will get my chances and if I play well, I will get more chances.”

Good competition

Olsen has provided more than just back-up to the hit and miss Jordan Pickford. The 29-year-old shot-stopper has played well when called upon, especially in the win at Elland Road.

He has kept two clean sheets in seven starts, one coming away to Leicester and the other at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

Olsen was given an opportunity in the Premier League again against Leeds after Pickford’s poor run of form. England’s number one let in a howler against Leicester in a 1-1 draw, which ultimately cost Everton a win.

He then conceded twice at home to Newcastle in a bad team performance. Admittedly, there wasn’t much he could do about the Callum Wilson brace, but it was enough for Ancelotti to hand Olsen a chance.

The boss has at some of the biggest clubs in the world. Having managed the likes of Casillas, Cech, Neuer and Buffon, his standard of goalkeepers is at the very top.

Everton’s back up keeper has come into the side and looked good. Yes, he did concede three at Old Trafford. But picking up a point away to United was a good result, coming just days after a win at Leeds.

It appears he has the starting place at the moment, it would be a wise move to sign him permanently.
