Carlo Ancelotti: Lucas Digne will sign new Everton contract next week

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Everton defender Lucas Digne will sign a new contract at Goodison Park next week.

The French defender has been a revelation in Merseyside since moving from Barcelona and will extend his stay once again.

Digne is currently contracted with the Toffees until 2023 and will commit to a long-term deal when agreeing to this new contract.

Ancelotti confirmed the news in his press conference on Friday, with the Liverpool Echo relaying his quotes after the update.

“I’m not in there but I know, I think next week, they agreed,” he said.

“I think next week he is going to sign officially a new contract.”

This is becoming a new strategy of the Toffees.

Michael Keane has also penned a new long-term deal this season despite having years remaining on his old contract – something which has boosted the squad.

Ancelotti has clearly identified the key areas of his squad and wants to make sure that there is no chance of them being poached away.

This way, if a club does come in, they will be forced to pay way over the usual asking price and make the Toffees a huge sum of money in doing so.

When Digne was out injured over the past few months, Everton suffered dramatically, and this is a real sign of our intent moving forward past this season in the Premier League.
