Ancelotti delivers Gbamin boost – midfielder should be ready to play in a month

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has given a positive update on £25m midfielder Jean-Phillippe Gbamin, saying he should be fit for selection within the month.

Gbamin signed for the Toffees in the summer of 2019, in a big-money deal from Bundesliga side Mainz. He has been unfortunate with injuries since making the move, but the boss offered some good news on his comeback.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Ancelotti claimed the Ivorian should be fit for selection within the next few weeks.

He said: “He is working and training individually and everything is going well.

“He is to start training with the team in 10-15 days and then play in a month.”

Boost for the Blues

Finally some good news with regards to injuries for Ancelotti and Everton.

Gbamin has suffered a torrid time with his fitness since joining. He had Achilles surgery in May and hasn’t featured at all since that time. There was much excitement when he made the switch to Merseyside, but still has plenty of time to fulfil his potential.

The defensive midfielder was brought in under Marco Silva after the departure of Idrissa Gueye, who went to PSG. The Ivorian is still like a brand new signing.

He has featured just twice for Everton since his move nearly two years ago. The difference at Goodison between when he joined and now is massive. We’ve now got a top-class manager who’s won titles in the top European Leagues.

It’ll be fascinating to see what Ancelotti can do with Gbamin, a player with bags of potential and who will be raring to go once he’s back.

The boss has helped the likes of Tom Davies and Gylfi Sigurdsson adapt their game massively over the past few months. Both are in fantastic form and full of confidence.

The return of Gbamin could push us up the table further, alongside the likes of James, Doucoure, Allan and co when everyone is fit to play.
