Report – Besiktas plotting permanent move for Tosun in the summer
Besiktas have already placed Everton forward Cenk Tosun at the top of their summer transfer wishlist, according to Turkish newspaper Milliyet.
The 29-year old striker re-joined the Black Eagles in January on a short-term loan deal, having fallen behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison in the pecking order at Goodison Park.
Now Milliyet claim that after making an immediate impact in Istanbul, with Tosun having scored a brace on his return to the Super Lig, that Besiktas are preparing to make a permanent offer to Everton when the transfer window reopens.
Tosun joined the Toffees from Besiktas in January 2018 as Sam Allardyce’s first signing for the club, where he would go on to score five goals in 14 Premier League games that season.
This season though the forward only managed five substitute appearances in the Premier League, totally just 43 minutes of action with zero goals to his name.
Best for all parties
For some time now it has appeared as though Cenk Tosun’s days as an Everton player were numbered, with the forward often failing to impress when given the opportunity.
However nothing ultimately materialised in the summer, leaving Tosun resigned to the bench for six months until his departure in January.
Should Besiktas decide to firm up their interest and make a permanent offer for Cenk at the end of the season, we think it would be the best move all parties.
With the European Championships still currently scheduled to take place this summer, Cenk will surely be thinking about earning a spot on the plane for Turkey.
With that goal in mind both Cenk and Besiktas will hope to see a continual uptick in performance levels for the remainder of the season, which in turn will boost Everton’s negotiation platform in the summer.
Everton are likely to hope for as much money as possible in the inevitability of Cenk’s sale, while the player and Besiktas will hope to reignite a formidable symbiotic relationship in the Super Lig.
If all goes well, all parties have plenty to gain from Tosun’s success this season, so here’s hoping he continues to score goals.
