Exclusive: Campbell claims new stadium will be ‘really big boost’ for Everton

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has talked up the importance of securing planning permission for the proposed new Everton stadium at Bramley-Moore Docks.

Last week, Everton CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale shared an update on the new stadium after receiving a boost in the hunt to secure planning permission.

Campbell insists Everton are just waiting to hear the magic words before celebrating a development that will provide a huge boost to the club.

Campbell told Goodison News, “Everton have needed this [New stadium] for such a long time.

“It’s edging closer, they need those magic words. ‘yeah, you’ve got the planning permission’.

“That’s the important part. Obviously, we’re in difficult times but it will be a really big boost to the football club once it is all sorted out.”

The hearing to decide whether the new stadium will be given the go-ahead is on Tuesday after Liverpool’s city planner released his report into the proposed build this week.

The planner will recommend that the plans are approved, as per this week’s club update, so there is every reason to be positive about the future of this project.

We have seen the benefits and weaknesses of moving to new stadiums though so there is still some caution to be had.

Tottenham’s new stadium is widely regarded as a successful move but West Ham and Arsenal’s moves have been less well-received.

It will be a shame to leave Goodison behind but as we look to develop into another so called ‘super club’, a new home is needed for a fresh start.

Hopefully we will have some good news about this project in a few days time.
