Report – Everton enter hunt to sign Torino defender Gleison Bremer
Everton are one of a number of clubs currently monitoring Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer, according to a report from Toro News.
The Toffees are currently stocked full of centre-back options but speculation has been rife for the past few months that Carlo Ancelotti could look to bring in another central defender, and Bremer has seemingly emerged as an option.
Toro News, a sister site of La Gazzetta dello Sport, claim that Everton are joined by Liverpool, West Ham and Fulham in registering an interest in the Brazilian.
Toro News go on to report that Torino are aware of how much interest there is in their 23-year old star defender and as a result the club would like to commit him to a new contract, having already touched base with his representatives in order to start discussions.
Where does he fit?
If we are to believe the speculation that suggests Ancelotti is looking to tinker with his backline this summer, the next question should concern who he replaces.
Michael Keane is Everton’s leader at the back, so he’s unlikely to be replaced, and new boy Ben Godfrey will obviously remain. Mason Holgate’s versatility makes him worth keeping, meaning Yerry Mina appears to be the most likely player to give way.
Mina began his Everton career on slightly shaky footing but he’s come a long way since then and has regularly turned in mammoth defensive displays alongside Keane this season, and he certainly doesn’t deserve to be kicked to the curb this summer.
It seems that the best course of action is to defer to the better judgement of Ancelotti and Marcel Brands. They’ll need to make the right call, and if they decide that Everton will improve with Bremer in the side, then hopefully the club can act fast and secure their target.
In other Everton news, Jarrad Branthwaite is attracting interest from a number of top Premier League clubs.
