Fabrizio Romano: Everton are ‘working to sign’ top right-back target Max Aarons
Sky Sports Italy’s transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims Everton are working to sign Norwich defender Max Aarons this summer.
The highly-rated full-back has been frequently linked with a move to Merseyside over the past 12 months, with Mail Online reporting earlier this week that Everton were keen.
The Blues are in need of a long-term right-back successor as Seamus Coleman nears the end of his time with the club, and with Jonjoe Kenny failing to impress, the club are likely to investigate the transfer market.
Speaking on his Here We Go Podcast, Romano revealed that Everton are indeed planning on making a move for Aarons, while he also revealed the Canaries’ price tag. Romano said: “Everton are now working to sign Max Aarons, they want a new right-back. He’s doing great work at Norwich and we are talking about potentially one of the future right-backs for England.
“Everton are working to sign him – they’re interested, they have a list and, on this list, Max Aarons is one of their favourites as a right-back. They are signing a new right-back [this] summer and let’s see if they can pay because Norwich are asking for around €35-40 million, so it’s not an easy situation.”
Signs are promising
If we are indeed looking to show major intent this summer, moving quickly and with purpose for someone of Aarons’ potential would be a great first step.
Of course, there is a big difference between pursuing a target and landing a target, but showing intent is the first step and it’s important that the club make it.
Aarons could be just the type of player that Everton need, both to improve the current crop of players in the short-term and add to the club’s pool of future talent that could have an impact in the long-term.
Personally we’d love to see Aarons in an Everton shirt, so hopefully we see movement on this front in the near future.
In other Everton news, Carlo Ancelotti has cleared Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Allan to start against Southampton on Monday.
