Exclusive: Campbell hails ‘superb’ Davies as 22y/o steps up for Everton
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has been impressed by the way Tom Davies has improved this season as he has shaken the tag of an Everton fringe player.
Davies has fought his way back into Carlo Ancelotti’s plans after nearly leaving Goodison Park on loan during the summer.
Campbell claims Davies has gone from strength to strength this season and impressed when the opportunities came to him as other players got injured.
“Tom Davies has been superb,” Campbell told Goodison News.
“I said earlier this season that it will be important for some of the fringe players to step up because you need those players to perform when Rodriguez and Allan aren’t there.
“Can those players step up? Can they perform? Can they get better? I’ve got to say, Davies has improved as a player in this Everton team for sure.”
Davies had started Everton’s last four Premier League games before missing Monday night’s game against Southampton.
The only thing missing for Davies this season is a long-awaited goal as he is yet to find the net so far this campaign.
Of course, it isn’t his job to score but you can’t help but feel a goal is the confidence boost Davies needs to fully announce himself as a contender.
He does add some steel to our midfield that we have bitterly missed with Allan sidelined through injury.
We’ve needed players to step up this term due to our horrible injury luck and Davies has done just that.
He may have a big role to play as the fixtures pile up at the end of this most hectic of seasons.
We’re glad he’s turned his form, and Goodison career, around in recent months.
