Report: Fenerbahce keen on signing Everton forward Josh King
Fenerbahce are interested in signing Everton forward Josh King in the summer, according to Turkish newspaper Fanatik.
Everton only signed King from Bournemouth on transfer deadline day last month, with the Norway international committing to an initial six-month deal at Goodison Park.
Since moving to Merseyside King has featured eight times in the Premier League for the Toffees, coming off the substitutes’ bench one each occasion.
Fanatik claim that Fenerbahce are in contact with King and that they’ll look to take advantage of the player’s short contract with Everton, with the former Manchester United man having yet to commit his long-term future to the club.
The report also suggests that the Super Lig side will also exploit his lack of starts for Everton, which could see King consider other options this summer if he isn’t starting for the Blues.
After the 29-year old signed, Carlo Ancelotti explained that his long-term Everton future would ultimately be down to him [The Guardian].
Yet to prove worth
Given that King has yet to start a game for Everton yet it’s difficult to really judge him because he never really has any time to bed in and settle into Ancelotti’s team when he does play.
That being said, we really have seen nothing from King yet to justify why he should be given an extended contract in the summer.
Everton may well qualify for Europe ahead of next season, and if they do they’ll need to bolster their options by adding to the squad. As things stand it seems as though King could be someone brought in on a longer basis in order to keep numbers up, but we’re not sure that’s the way the club should be operating.
We’re also not against King signing a longer deal because we think he can certainly develop into a player that Ancelotti can use, but we do need to see some of that talent on display soon.
Fenerbahce could be a more promising proposition but King may want to remain in England, the country he has played football in for so long. It remains to be seen what will happen, but King needs to begin taking his opportunities before his short-term deal runs out.
In other Everton news, Ancelotti is considering selling Lucas Digne to Atletico Madrid in order to fund a move for Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon.
