View: Everton have the right to play hardball over Kean future
Everton couldn’t have anticipated that Moise Kean would take to life in Paris quite so easily as he has done after flopping in the Premier League.
Since signing for Paris Saint-Germain on a season-long loan in the summer, Kean has been in electrifying form for the Parisian giants, scoring 15 times in 29 games across all competitions.
Because of this it stands to reason that PSG want to sign him on permanent basis, but they aren’t the only club interested in tempting him away from Goodison Park.
TuttoMercato reported over the weekend that Juventus were interested in bringing the Italy international back to Turin in a player-plus-cash deal.
Either Douglas Costa or Aaron Ramsey could be included in a potential offer, both of whom are valued at around £13million, while Juve would also include an offer of £21.5million (€25million).
Le10 Sport in France published a report on Monday that claimed PSG are also keen on a permanent transfer for Kean this summer, while their report labelled Everton as ‘greedy’ regarding the transfer fee.
In spite of Everton’s ‘greedy’ claim, the Toffees have every right to play hardball over Kean’s future this summer.
It remains to be seen whether the Italian would consider returning to Goodison Park under compatriot Carlo Ancelotti, but if he decides he wants to move it leaves Everton in the negotiation driving seat.
Still only just 21-years old, Kean has a huge future ahead of him and Everton are well aware of the potential he has, his Premier League struggles notwithstanding.
Partnering his age and his potential with his impressive goalscoring record for PSG this season, which includes a goal in the Champions League against Barcelona, that leaves Everton with someone whosw price tag has undeniably grown exponentially this season.
Kean signed for an initial fee of around £25million from Juventus in 2019 [BBC Sport], so at the very least the club should expect a much higher offer than is being mooted by TuttoMercato.
Ramsey and Costa, both 30, have found themselves down the pecking order in Turin, meaning their value as possible summer recruits has also come down significantly.
While the duo would likely improve Everton’s squad, the Toffees are well within their right to demand either a higher transfer fee or better players in exchange than Juventus’ fringe players.
Everton should reject Juventus’ player-plus-cash offer and demand a simple transfer fee for Kean, one that better reflects his value as a potential superstar.
The Blues are only being ‘greedy’ because they’re not allowing bigger clubs to steamroll over them.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Lucas Vasquez this summer.
