‘One of my faves’ – Ferdinand showers praise on Everton star Calvert-Lewin

Rio Ferdinand claims he would immediately sign Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin if he was manager of a ‘big team’.

The England international striker has gone from strength to strength this season, having flourished since Carlo Ancelotti became manager in December 2019.

The 24-year old has scored 19 goals in all competitions this season, earning himself a debut England call-up and becoming an established international in the process.

Talking on his YouTube channel about England’s best XI ahead of the Euros this summer, Ferdinand put Harry Kane ahead of Calvert-Lewin, although he sung the Everton forward’s praises.

Ferdinand said: “I love Dominic Calvert-Lewin, he’s one of my faves.

“I’m buying him if I’m at a big team right now, I’d buy him quick.”

Worth every penny

Calvert-Lewin seemingly went from being a useful squad player to being a crucial star for Everton overnight, and he’s never taken his foot off the pedal since then.

DCL has always possessed impressive hold-up ability, but it’s just how well-rounded his game has become that is most impressive.

Fast, strong and lethal in the air, Calvert-Lewin perfectly fits the description of an old fashioned striker, but he’s more than a simple target man.

Ancelotti and Duncan Ferguson have made Calvert-Lewin someone that Everton can really rely on, and it makes total sense that big clubs would see him as someone who could improve their options up-front.

He’s still very young, he’s got all the right attributes to succeed and he’s hungry to improve. He’s everything you want from a high profile signing.

Unfortunately, Harry Kane is so good that Calvert-Lewin is unlikely to uproot him for England, but he still has so much time to stamp his authority both in the Premier League and on the international stage.

He could do that for any club, but we really hope he continues to do it for Everton.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have emerged as frontrunners to sign Lucas Vasquez this summer.
