Report: Everton are ‘intent’ on signing Olsen permanently this summer

Robin Olsen has ‘no chance’ of returning to Roma this summer with Everton intent on securing a permanent switch for the goalkeeper, according to Forza Roma.

The Sweden international moved to Goodison Park last summer on a season-long loan, with Carlo Ancelotti eyeing someone who could compete with Jordan Pickford as Everton’s first-choice shot-stopper.

Ancelotti has opted to rotate his goalkeepers somewhat this season which has seen Olsen play nine times, five occasions of which came in the Premier League [Transfermarkt], and those games have led to the Italian making up his mind regarding Olsen’s future at the club.

Ancelotti confirmed in a press conference in early January that he wanted to bring Olsen back to Merseyside in the summer, and the goalkeeper was said to be keen on staying too.

However, after a recent break-in at his home, Olsen’s family are said to have been left understandably traumatised, leading the Swede to consider his future away from England [MailOnline].

However, Forza Roma, which is an Italian news outlet that contributes to Gazzetta Dello Sport, doesn’t consider there to be any chance of Olsen returning to the Stadio Olimpico in the summer, with Ancelotti desperate to tie him down to a lengthier contract.

Good news?

We’ve seen conflicting reports over the past few weeks regarding exactly what it is that Olsen wants this summer, and ultimately that’s all that matters.

Everton can have all of the ‘intent’ in the world in their pursuit of the Swede but if he doesn’t want to come back to England, either because he doesn’t feel safe or for another unrelated reason, then the club’s intent becomes moot.

It is positive to see that the Toffees are being proactive in the transfer market though. Ancelotti has found a player he likes and he’s indicated early to the club that he would like him back on a permanent basis.

That’s positive because the last thing we want to see is the club chasing a goalkeeper all summer up until the final days of the window where they’ll be forced to strike up a panic loan.

Hopefully Olsen wants to return to Everton because he’s shown himself to be capable of challenging Pickford and performing in the Premier League.

He’s a good fit at Goodison Park, and we’d like to see him come back.
