Report claims Iwobi is ‘back in Liverpool’ after Everton ace has second COVID test

Everton attacker Alex Iwobi has been sent home from international duty after testing positive for coronavirus for a second time, according to OJBSport

There has been some confusion in recent days over what the situation is with Iwobi with conflicting reports suggesting that Iwobi either does or doesn’t have COVID.

OJBSport claim Iwobi was ruled out of his side’s clash against Benin last week after testing positive for the disease but the Nigeria Football Federation ‘doubted the validity’ of the result.

This second result has now reportedly come back positive and as a result the attacker has been sent back to Liverpool to be treated closer to home.

What’s a bit stranger is that Nigeria’s press officer Babafemi Raji is quoted by the report as saying, “Iwobi has left the camp. Before he left, he did not show any symptoms, he was fine.”

If he was fine then why has he left the camp?

There are cases of symptomless COVID but to claim that Iwobi is ‘fine’ while suffering with a disease like COVID is slightly odd.

It sounds like we may have to wait and hear the full story from Iwobi himself whenever he is fit to face the media.

But this report claims he is back in Liverpool which must mean something happened while he was away.

Questions need to be asked over why Iwobi needed a second COVID test and why the NFF weren’t satisfied with the result of the first one.

Of course, they’d want one of their better players to feature in vital World Cup qualifiers but it is wrong to gamble with a player’s health like that.

Again, there is still a fair amount of confusion reigning here and we may not get the full story until Iwobi speaks out himself.

Let’s hope he doesn’t have to isolate and miss our clash with Crystal Palace on Monday.

In other Everton news, Kevin Campbell has been blown away by a report linking the Blues to a ‘world class’ player.
