Everton have made an approach for £8.5m-rated Igor Jesus
Everton have contacted Shabab Dubai over a move for striker Igor Jesus, according to Jeunes Footeux.
The outlet also reports interest in the 20-year-old from Marseille, and claims Jesus could be available for €10million, or £8.5m.
Jesus has been in impressive form this season with 11 goals and 11 assists in the UAE Gulf League this term.
It is not known how advanced talks are currently but Jesus could become the latest Brazilian to join Everton, following the path of Allan, Bernard and Richarlison.
Jesus is very unproven and he would have a lot to learn before he is ready for the Premier League.
Playing in the UAE is clearly not the best level but Jesus’ willingness to test himself in such a country says a lot about his mindset.
He has made the most of his opportunity too and 22 goal contributions shows he can help the team in a variety of ways – setting up goals as well as scoring them.
He reminds us of Richarlison due to his ability to play up-front or at left-wing, per Transfermarkt.
It would be nice to find the next Richarlison without having to spend big money like we did on the 23-year-old.
The Brazilian arrived in the Premier League as an unknown prodigy when he joined Watford but he did not take long to shine – there is potential for Jesus to do the same.
As a result, we support Marcel Brands looking at such targets but the Director of Football must ensure he has sufficiently scouted the attacker and other targets like him.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin currently leads the line and we do not see Jesus taking his place if he were to join, but the England man would be a great forward for the youngster to learn from.
We lack depth up-front too, and bringing in an energetic young player with a lot to prove could lead to successful results.
The jury is definitely still out on Jesus, however.
