Report claims Everton have lost over £50m in wages since 2016

Everton have lost over £50million through the lost wages of injured players over the last five seasons according to The Injury Index

The Injury Index calculates how much teams have lost through the wages of players who have been sidelined for an extended period of time.

For example, this season it claims Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk has lost Liverpool almost £3.5million in lost wages since he picked up his knock against us early in the campaign.

If you look back over the last five years, The Injury Index claims Everton have £50.6million in lost wages but it could be worse.

Manchester United top the list of losers as they’ve lost £105million over the past five years which says a lot about their injury issues and their ridiculous wage structure.

The big loser for Everton is of course Jean-Philippe Gbamin as The Injury Index claims we have lost £4.7million in wages to Gbamin since he last played in August 2019.

Yerry Mina has cost us the most this season as we’ve apparently lost £1.2million in wages to the injury-prone Colombian.

We’ve has a real problem with injuries this season with £5.1million reportedly lost on wages already so far this term.

It is surprising to not see James Rodriguez top of the list as he is presumably one of the high earners at the club and he’s not had a good injury record this term.

There are plenty of teams who are worse off than us based on the last five years which is a testament to the financial situation at Goodison Park.

Every team gets injuries but the top teams are top of the list because they pay the highest wages.

Apart from Crystal Palace who have lost £60million over the last five years which suggests there is just one long continuing injury crisis at Selhurst Park.

In any case, clubs lose money through players sometimes and we can count ourselves lucky that we have Farhad Moshiri bankrolling us.

We’re clearly not in a financial hole if we can afford a new stadium though it would be nice to see our players pick up slightly fewer injuries.

In other Everton news, this Blues international has reportedly been sent home from international duty.
