Patrick Boyland names six players who could leave Everton to help with financial fair play
Patrick Boyland says Everton need to sell players to help with financial fair play and identified six players who could leave in the summer.
The list includes Theo Walcott, Yannick Bolasie and Muhamed Besic – three players whose contracts expire at the end of the season.
Cenk Tosun, Jonjoe Kenny and Bernard all have a little more than a year left on their deals, but Boyland thinks the club could let them leave too.
He told The Athletic’s Gwlad Tidings podcast [01/04], “I think they absolutely have to [sell players]. Everton do need to be careful they do need to bring in money through transfers out of the club.
“I look at Jonjoe Kenny who will come back from his loan at Celtic over the summer and he’ll only have one year left on his deal.
“If he’s not going to sign a new deal, and there’s no sign that one is forthcoming at the moment, then he’s a saleable asset.
“Bernard nearly went in January, he’s obviously a high earner, Cenk Tosun will come back he’s only on loan – can they find a club for Tosun – Theo Walcott should leave anyway as he’s out of contract.
“Bolasie’s another one … Mo Besic.”
Balancing the books
Everton narrowly avoided breaching UEFA financial fair play rules according to The Athletic’s Greg O’Keeffe so clearly departures are necessary.
We should consider ourselves kind of fortunate that we have so many players who are surplus to requirement.
The likes of Walcott, Tosun and Bernard are all probably picking up significant wages too and offloading them will be critical.
It is easier said than done for two of that trio and as we have seen in the past we may have to rely on loan moves once again.
However, if we do get rid of each of the six mentioned then Ancelotti should have freedom to manoeuvre in the transfer market.
Bringing in more quality is vital to breaking into the top four but will only be possible if players are sold.
We are expecting a busy summer window and would accept all of the players mentioned leaving the club.
