Dominic Calvert-Lewin is beginning to let Ancelotti down with his poor form

Dominic Calvert-Lewin failed to find the back of the net once again on Monday and the Everton striker is beginning to let down Carlo Ancelotti.

The 24-year-old found the net twice for England during the international break but could not back that up against Crystal Palace.

He was presented with two big chances, per SofaScore, and really should have scored the goals to give us the win.

Mason Holgate found him with a superb ball in the first half, putting Calvert-Lewin through one-on-one.

And the striker’s composure just completely deserted him – Vicente Guaita was on the edge of his own box and Calvert-Lewin could have taken the ball past him to score. Instead, he fired straight at the Spaniard after taking one touch too many.

Calvert-Lewin was not the only culprit as Richarlison should have scored too, but he is our primary goalscorer.

Yet since the beginning of December, the England ace has scored just three goals in 15 games.

And against Crystal Palace Calvert-Lewin did not exactly excel in other areas – in fact, his SofaScore rating of 6.1 was the lowest on the pitch.

That is partly because he only managed to muster a pass accuracy of 53%, which is pitiful, and in total, he lost possession 14 times.

To put that into context Calvert-Lewin only had 31 touches, so barely did anything of note on the ball.

The draw was the result of missed chances, rather than an inability to create which led to defeats at home to Burnley, Newcastle and West Ham.

The blame lies with Calvert-Lewin, therefore, and he let down Ancelotti by not scoring the clear chances he was presented with.

Ancelotti pointed to that as being the reason for the dropped points.

He said post-match, “Disappointed because the performance was there. We had opportunities to kill the game.”

Each of our remaining nine games is critical as we aim for the top four and we need our best players to shine.

That includes Calvert-Lewin, and if he does not find his shooting boots soon we can forget about Champions League football.
