Jean-Philippe Gbamin sends message to Everton fans after 1-1 draw v Crystal Palace

Jean-Philippe Gbamin has thanked Everton fans for their support after he returned from his injury hell to play against Crystal Palace on Monday night.

Everton signed Gbamin, 25, from Mainz in August 2019 but since then, the midfielder has made just two appearances for the Merseyside club.

However, the Ivory Coast international finally made his third Toffees appearance on Monday night when he came off the bench to replace James Rodriguez in the 79th minute of the 1-1 draw with Palace at Goodison Park.

It was a moment to savour as the midfielder overcame two serious injuries to finally return to playing for Everton and he took to his personal Instagram account after the match to react.

Gbamin said: “597 days later. Happy to be back at home. Not the final score we wanted but we keep going.

“Thank you to all the support and all the fans behind us and behind me. More hard work to come.”

Time to push on

It was great to finally see Gbamin back on the pitch and playing for the Blues after such a tough time for him.

It’s been almost two years since the Ivorian last played for Everton so to see him back on the pitch will be a major boost for him in terms of his recovery.

While the midfielder has recovered from his injury, he still needs to finish off getting match fit and getting back to the player he was that led to Everton signing him a couple of years ago.

Gbamin is at a stage of his career where he needs to be playing regularly and he can only do that if there’s no risk of injury nor a risk of Everton’s form dipping if he’s in the side.

Let’s hope that such a long spell on the sidelines hasn’t impeded the ex-Mainz player’s development that much but the signs were promising on Monday night in his 11-minute cameo against Palace.

In other Everton news, Liverpool have become a parody of themselves with their chairman blaming their Blues for their woes.
