Jermaine Beckford awestruck by James Rodriguez in Everton draw v Crystal Palace

Jermaine Beckford was left awestruck by Everton playmaker James Rodriguez after the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Monday evening.

The Colombian marked his return to the starting XI at Goodison Park with the opening goal, smashing the ball through a crowded Palace six-yard box.

Beckford was thrilled by the build-up play which included both full-backs Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman bombing into the final third.

Speaking during live radio coverage of the game on the BBC, Beckford was thrilled by the Colombian and his class in front of goal.

“Oh my goodness,” he said.

“Brilliant football, Everton moving it quickly, then Lucas Digne put a lovely ball in. Seamus Coleman steadied himself and picked out James Rodriguez and what a great connection and finish into the bottom corner.”

It was an embarrassing night in front of goal once again, and we have said that far too many times this season at Goodison Park.

There have been more than a handful of occasions where we have missed chances and been punished at home, and if we want to qualify for Europe this season, that has to change.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison missed almost 10 chances against Palace, and they couldn’t have asked for better service on Monday.

Rodriguez got one chance in the game, and he smashed it home.

Carlo Ancelotti will be pulling his hair out at certain players, but at least one big positive is the return of his magician in the heart of the side.
