Gbamin outlines personal ambition following Everton injury return
Jean-Philippe Gbamin has explained that he aims to prove that Everton were right to buy him following his return from long-term injury against Crystal Palace.
The Ivorian midfielder made his return to competitive action on Monday after 597 days out injured, with the Blues using him as a second-half substitute against the Eagles.
Carlo Ancelotti had revealed prior to the game that Gbamin could feature if selected, with the 25-year old now fully fit and ready to play.
Now Gbamin has declared his intention to prove his worth on Merseyside, with the midfielder set to face heavy competition for game time once Everton’s injury list clears up.
Talking to the Liverpool Echo, Gbamin outlined his intentions, saying: “No it’s not easy [being out for so long], but now I have three years left on my contract, so I will show why they bought me.
“This is my target, I will work hard in training and show that I can start some of the games.
“But we have to be a little patient too, because after two years of injury it’s never easy.”
Gbamin also praised the Everton fan base for supporting him throughout his injury lay-off, with the former Mainz man looking forward to the day that fans can return to Goodison Park.
We can hope
After having spent so much time on the sidelines after signing for Everton in 2019, it makes complete sense that Gbamin would have a strong desire to prove his worth now that he’s returned.
Everton fans have barely seen Gbamin play since he made the switch from Mainz almost two years ago due to his many injury issues, which naturally could lead many to question whether he was ultimately worth the £25million fee Everton paid for him.
Having been previously described by Ancelotti as a “powerful midfielder“, Gbamin will now want to cement his place in the Italian’s plans going forward, particularly if Everton are able to bring European football to Goodison Park next season.
Still just 25-years old, Gbamin could have a long and successful career ahead of him if he can build up steam with the Blues and help them reach their goals.
With Everton having a number of midfielders unavailable at the moment due to injury, Gbamin has a real opportunity now to impress and show fans exactly what they’ve been missing.
