Ancelotti: Doucoure will play again this season
Carlo Ancelotti has stated that Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure will return to action before the end of the season.
After being sidelined with a broken bone in his foot since March, it was uncertain whether or not Doucoure would recover in time before the season finishes in May.
However, Ancelotti in his pre-match press conference gave a positive update on the summer signing.
He said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo, “He will play again [this season]. He had the scan last week, everything was OK.
“He’s going to have his next scan in three weeks and then he can start to train.”
Minutes after the manager made the announcement, Doucoure took to Twitter to give an update about his rehabilitation.
Massive news
Doucoure getting back to full fitness at the business end of the season is crucial if Everton are to mount a serious top-four challenge.
The £20million summer signing from Watford has rarely put a foot wrong for Ancelotti’s side.
He’s offered a bit of everything to the team this season. Offensively he’s scored twice and assisted on three occasions.
Per WhoScored, his pass accuracy has been north of 85 percent – which is a good number for a player in his position.
He’s averaged 1.8 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game and has been an aerial threat too – winning 1.3 aerial duels on an average every match.
Allan has been the deepest of the midfield players, but whenever he’s decided to progress up the pitch, Doucoure has always been there to provide cover for the Brazilian.
The two have been vital cogs in Ancelotti’s well-oiled Everton machine this season.
He must have been delighted to hear about Doucoure’s fitness, just like Toffees fans all over the world.
We can’t wait to see him back on the pitch, hopefully in front of a loud Goodison Park crowd celebrating a top-four finish.
