Carlo Ancelotti praises youngster Lewis Warrington as he moulds game on Allan
Lewis Warrington is a big prospect for Everton and Carlo Ancelotti revealed the midfielder has participated in first-team training.
The 18-year-old has impressed at times for the Under 18s but playing alongside senior players should do him the world of good.
He will learn a great deal from Ancelotti and the internationals in the squad and he should be brimming with confidence due to the faith shown in him.
Ancelotti’s comments will elevate him even further too, and it is fair to say he is on the right path currently.
As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Ancelotti said, “I think that we have a good academy, not only Lewis [Warrington] but there are players training with us a lot of times.
“I can say that our academy is a good academy because we have players with talent. I think we have a good future in that sense.”
The Italian’s words are reassuring not just for Warrington, but for his U18 teammates and Everton fans.
Anthony Gordon has been given a chance this season but academy graduates have been few and far between in recent years – Tom Davies is the only current example in the first-team.
However, there is a sense that Warrington could be the next big thing.
U18 manager Paul Tait described the youngster as “magnificent” after a win over Manchester City U18s [Evertonfc.com].
The boss also explained how Warrington has adjusted his midfield role this season, from a no.10 to a number six.
And in order to get up to speed Warrington has modelled his new style on Allan.
“I’ve gone through the clips with the analyst at Everton, and he shows me videos of what Allan does well,” said Warrington, per the Liverpool Echo.
“I’m a similar build to him, quite small and stocky, and he covers ground and likes to tackle like me. I’ve been trying to take parts of his game and add them to mine, and it’s going quite well.
“We watch the clips quite often, of what Allan does best, and when I’m at home I watch a lot of football too.”
Warrington clearly displays the right attitude to make it to the top, and if he has impressed Ancelotti he must be showing promise in matches and in training.
We hope the Everton boss takes things one step further by giving Warrington or other youngsters game time for the senior team.
