Everton face Premier League competition for defender Gordon
Everton face competition from Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester United for Sheffield United starlet Kyron Gordon, according to Mail Online.
The 18-year old defender has caught the eye of a number of Premier League clubs this season, having impressed for the Blades’ Under-23s while also training with the first-team.
Mail Online report that Leeds and Man United have recently entered the race for Gordon, while the two Merseyside clubs have taken note of the young centre-back throughout the campaign.
With Sheffield United set to return to the Championship next season as they currently lie bottom of the Premier League table, Paul Heckingbottom’s side are expected to undergo a typical restructure.
Everton could take advantage of this by adding Gordon to their ever-growing pool of talented young players this summer.
Never enough quality
Everton’s Under-23s set-up has been impressive for some time. David Unsworth’s side have won the Premier League 2 twice in the past four seasons, and several players have broken through into the first-team, Tyler Onyango and Thierry Small being the latest.
There is a reason behind the success of the Under-23s, and that is that Everton actually take care to manage them properly.
The Toffees are always on the market for recruits to improve the first-team but they’re also always looking to improve their youth ranks, and they’ve recruited well over the past few seasons.
Unsworth’s coaching deserves credit too because someone has to organise such a young side for them to succeed, but Everton are the ones ensuring that Rhino has the best players to work with.
Should Everton have identified Kyron Gordon as the next talent that they need to snap up, much like they did with Jarrad Branthwaite just over a year ago, then that can only be a positive sign.
Here’s hoping the club act with haste if they do decide that Gordon is the type of player they want at Finch Farm.
