Gbamin not in Everton squad to play Brighton tonight

Jean-Philippe Gbamin has failed to travel with the Everton squad to Brighton for Monday night’s Premier League action, according to Alan Myers.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Monday, the Sky Sports journalist reported that Gbamin, 25, had suffered a “contact knee injury” in training at Finch Farm at the weekend.

Gbamin made his first appearance of the season for Everton last Monday when he came off the bench for the final 11 minutes of the draw with Crystal Palace.

Huge Gbamin blow

Can a player be more unfortunate than Gbamin?

He’s had continual injury issues since joining Everton from Mainz in 2019, playing just three times for the Merseyside club.

We were excited to finally see what the Ivory Coast international can do but there seems to be that there’s simply something not right with him.

It’s gone past the point of it being bad luck.

We’d bought a dud.

We’d say let’s go and cash in our chips and cut our losses on the midfielder, who cost the Blues £25million [BBC Sport] in August 2019.

But there’s simply no way anyone is going to take a risk on a player as injury-prone as Gbamin.

Let’s hope his latest blow isn’t too serious but it cannot help him that he’s out of the game against Brighton because it would have been a great chance for him to get some more game-time and build up his match fitness at the AMEX.
