Kevin Campbell predicts tough game for Everton v Brighton

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell predicts a tough game for Everton against Brighton with both sides set to view the fixture as a must-win game.

The Toffees are set to face the Seagulls at the Amex Stadium on Monday evening where they will look to put a torrid run of form behind them, having lost to Burnley and drawn with Crystal Palace in their last two Premier League fixtures.

Everton need to win in order to remain in the race for the Champions League as competition heats up, while Brighton need to win to secure their Premier League status.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said: “Obviously, again, they [remaining fixtures] are all must win, and they are must win for Brighton as well.

“After the way that they [Brighton] did okay at Old Trafford and with a different bounce of the ball they might have taken the game, they could be tough.

“For Everton, I’ll be honest with you, Everton need to win and they [Brighton] need to win too so it should be a good game.”

The former Everton hitman does believe that the Blues will get back to winning ways though, predicting another victory on the road for his former club.

Campbell added: “I’m going to go with Everton winning 2-1.”

Absolutely a must-win

With both Chelsea and Tottenham dropping points last week Everton had the perfect opportunity to make up ground on the to four by beating Crystal Palace, making the late equaliser they conceded sting all that much more.

Combine that with their humiliating defeat to Burnley prior to the international break and Everton are lucky to still be within distance of the top four, but they’ll need to iron out the creases going forward.

Graham Potter’s Brighton aren’t the easiest side to break down and they will definitely present a difficult challenge to Carlo Ancelotti’s side, but it is a challenge that they must overcome if they harbour hopes of qualifying for Europe.

In the reverse fixture at Goodison Park earlier in the season the Blues found it simpler to score past the Seagulls backline, winning 4-2 in a rare home victory.

They’ll need to hope that they’ll have similar luck in East Sussex.
