Young Everton stars set for Brighton squad inclusion after Alex Iwobi footage emerges
It appears Carlo Ancelotti has heeded Marcel Brands’ Everton advice with some notable inclusions in his squad for Monday’s trip to Brighton.
The Athletic recently reported that director of football Brands is “keen” for Ancelotti to play a more active role in the development of the young stars making an impression at Finch Farm.
Footage from Alex Iwobi’s snapchat story appears to show that the Italian tactician has already taken huge steps to bridge the gap between the first team and the youth squads of U18s and U23s.
Popular Everton fan account The Toffee Blues reposted Iwobi’s story on their Twitter page and it shows a number of young stars performing initiation songs, a popular trend among football teams when players go on their first away trip.
In a follow-up tweet they said: “Looks to be Kyle John (Right Back), Tom Cannon (Forward), Reece Welch (Centre Back) and Issac Price (Centre Midfield) that have travelled with the team,” though The Athletic’s Patrick Boyland replied, “Goalkeeper Harry Tyrer not Tom Cannon, otherwise spot on.”
Tyrer and John were both on the bench for the disappointing 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace last week, but Welch and Price are notable names added to the travelling list for Monday’s crucial clash on the south-coast.
Of course there is the chance that the squad can get whittled down further if the party that travelled down far exceeds the 20-man matchday squad allowed, but there is a big chance that at least a few of the young stars will take up a spot on the bench versus Brighton.
Especially in the cases of Welch and Price it will be big news for the duo to be selected and it will be a source of vindication for Brands who has watched them closely this season.
