Martin Tyler and Alan Smith slam ‘Desperate’ Michael Keane in Everton clash v Brighton
Martin Tyler and Alan Smith slammed Everton defender Michael Keane late on in the 0-0 draw against Brighton at the AMEX on Monday night.
Keane found himself in the referee’s book for a lunge on Brighton forward Danny Welbeck, which gave the hosts a free-kick in a dangerous position that luckily they failed to convert.
It came after Keane gifted possession to a Welbeck with an awfully loose pass inside his own half.
Although Keane won the ball with the challenge, Smith explained why the centre-back found himself shown a yellow card.
Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event on Monday night, Smith said: “I thought he maybe got a bit of the ball but he lunged in, as we see so often. Deemed to be out of control, dangerous challenge and all that.”
Sky Sports commentator Tyler responded: “How dangerous it was I’m not sure but it was a bit desperate.”
Out of control and reckless
Keane was desperate to make amends after he gifted possession to Welbeck so you can understand why he wants to make the challenge.
At the end of the day, he did win the ball but his tackle was very hard and he followed through on Welbeck, sending the Brighton forward crashing to the ground.
We cannot have any complaints really and if Brighton scored from the resulting free-kick, we could not have moaned either.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men were woeful on Monday night.
It was one of the most boring matches we’ve sat through and watched all season with the Blues failing to have any great chances until late on when Alex Iwobi fired a half-chance wide of the home side’s goal.
Brighton, on the other hand, had way more opportunities and looked threatening through Yves Bissouma and Adam Lallana.
We cannot complain about picking up a point when in reality, we should have lost.
In other Everton news, Yannick Bolasie was blown away by this Blues player in the first half against Brighton.
