Rio Ferdinand wants Manchester United to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Rio Ferdinand is a massive fan of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and he is keen for Manchester United to sign the Everton star.
Calvert-Lewin has scored 19 goals this season and Ferdinand praised the striker’s ability to make defenders uncomfortable.
The BT Sport pundit believes he would be a good fit at Old Trafford and shared a conversation he had with Carlo Ancelotti about the 24-year-old.
Appearing on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE, he said, “Listen, Dominic Calvert-Lewin for me I love him.
“I’ve watched a lot of Everton this year and he’s one that unnerves defenders. He’s not one you want to play against week in, week out. He’s aggressive, he attacks the ball.
“I was speaking to Carlo Ancelotti earlier this year and he mentioned Inzaghi and said he didn’t need many chances to score goals and he scores goals in and around the six-yard box.
“I think he’d be a fantastic signing for Manchester United. It’s one out of left field a little bit but I think he’d have a big impact.”
Fighting off interest
Calvert-Lewin could be a good option for United but we are not even going to even entertain the idea, and we hope the club rejects any offers that might come in.
The England international has gone off the boil in recent weeks but he is critical to our attacking play.
A return of one shot on target when he was missing against Brighton highlights how much we need him.
It is not Calvert-Lewin’s fault his goals have dried up.
Sure he missed chances against Crystal Palace in his last match but every forward does – the underlying issue is the lack of goalscoring opportunities he is getting.
This summer we must add creativity and other methods to score, but keeping Calvert-Lewin is essential.
It is so difficult to find goalscorers in this division and though we could get a big fee for Calvert-Lewin, it would cost a lot to replace him.
There is no gurantee of success in the transfer market either, particularly with strikers – just look at how Moise Kean turned out.
