Adrian Durham slams Everton over awful Goodison Park form
Adrian Durham has slammed Everton over their poor form at Goodison Park this season which has left their European hopes hanging in the balance.
The Blues are eighth in the Premier League and just seven points off fourth-placed West Ham with a game in hand on all of those above them, but they have slipped away in recent weeks and are winless in four league games.
They were also knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester City in March and their campaign is petering to a meek conclusion.
Speaking on talkSPORT’s ‘Drive’ show [16:00, 13/04/21], Durham rounded on the Blues after listing a couple of extremely concerning Goodison Park statistics.
“They’ve lost more games than they’ve won at home, they have a negative goal difference at home as well, that’s unacceptable for Everton Football Club,” he said.
No place like…away from home
The difference between our home and away from is stark and it is an extremely worrying trend that might just cost us a spot in Europe this season.
Only five Premier League clubs have picked up fewer points at home than our tally of 18 in 15 games and all of them are relegation-threatened sides – Sheffield United, Fulham, West Brom, Brighton and Newcastle United. [Transfermarkt]
It’s also the same as Sean Dyche’s Burnley who sit amongst those sides in the bottom six and less than Wolves who have lost star striker Raul Jimenez for much of the campaign.
In complete contrast, our away form has been sparkling as we average two points per game on the road (30 from 15) to sit fourth in that standing.
Why are we 12 points better off away from home? Are we the most affected team when it comes to no fans in stadiums?
It certainly looks that way and we’re crossing everything we have that fans are fully back in grounds next season as it looks like a European spot is slipping out of our hands for this campaign.
The old adage ‘maybe next year’ has never felt more appropariate.
