‘Door is open’ – Cenk Tosun always welcome at Besiktas explains club president
Besiktas president Ahmet Nur Cebi has declared that the ‘door is open’ to Everton forward Cenk Tosun following his recent season-ending injury.
The Turkey international was left in tears after rupturing a tendon in his right knee earlier this week, according to Fanatik, with the striker having had his loan deal cut short as a result.
Tosun joined Besiktas in January after falling down the pecking order at Goodison Park, and despite missing games through injury and having contracted COVID-19, the 29-year old managed to score three times in three Super Lig games.
Tosun, who signed for Everton from Besiktas for £27million in January 2018, now faces the prospect of sitting on the sidelines for as long as six months. Understandably that was tough news for him to take, particularly with the European Championships just around the corner.
However, Besiktas president Ahmet Nur Cebi has moved to console the forward, revealing that the player is suffering just as much psychologically as he is physically.
As reported by Fanatik, Cebi said: “Cenk Tosun has not recovered yet. The issue is not only a knee injury; he is also psychologically affected.
“He feels depressed. We tried to give him morale. He will try to recover him as soon as possible.
“Cenk Tosun is our child, even if it is for rent. This door is open to him at any time, whenever he wants. I think this will be enough morale for him.”
Tough break
Considering it wasn’t all that long ago that Tosun suffered a lengthy injury while playing for Crystal Palace, the Turkey international is unfortunate to find himself on the sidelines once more.
Everton’s poor fitness record stretches far beyond the reaches of Merseyside it seems.
Tosun’s fitness does leave a sizeable question mark over his long-term future as an Everton player. It was believed that he would move on from Goodison Park this summer, but if he’s still injured he may not be able to secure an exit before the deadline.
If that’s the case then Everton could see their transfer plans impact, what with their inability to shift the 29-year old’s wages off their salary budget.
It doesn’t seem as though Carlo Ancelotti considers Tosun to be part of his long-term plans at Goodison Park and that’s unlikely to change following his recent injury.
It could be a difficult situation for both club and player in the summer. Either way we hope that Tosun recovers speedily, more so for his own mental wellbeing than anything else.
