Everton supporters allowed to attend Wolves clash at Goodison Park

Everton will finally be able to welcome supporters back to Goodison Park when they face Wolves in a vital Premier League clash in May.

The Athletic reported in February that the Premier League were set to move fixtures around in order to allow every club the chance to welcome supporters back before the end of the season.

Now The Athletic have revealed that the Premier League have given the plan the green light, with the 37th round of Premier League fixtures now set to take place on May 18/19, the day after the third stage of the government’s COVID-19 road map.

Mail Online state that gates will be limited to either 10,000 supporters or 25 per cent of stadium capacity, whichever is lowest, while they still await official government confirmation.

Everton’s game against Wolves is currently set to be played on May 15, and it isn’t yet clear whether it will be moved to Tuesday 18 or Wednesday 19.

Only home supporters will be allowed to attend the fixtures, with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport confirming they have no plans to revise their ‘no away fans’ policy.

Welcome return

Though the final green light is still pending governmental approval, it is of course fantastic news that fans will be able to return to Goodison Park next month.

Everton were one of the few fortunate clubs to entertain home supporters for a couple of games earlier in the season, however the Blues will still receive a huge lift with fans back in the ground.

It goes without saying that the occasion will give Everton fans a huge lift having been kept away from regular weekend football for so long, but the decision for fans to return could also present Everton with a huge opportunity.

The Toffees are still in the race to qualify for Europe, and as the season winds to a close the games are becoming ever the more important to win.

When Everton face Wolves they might have already ensured qualification by then, or they might be out of the running completely. However if there are still spots to be secured at that point, having the fans will make a tough tie much more lively.

Hopefully Everton make the most of having fans back when they face Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, but most important, hopefully fans have something to cheer about on the day.
