Tosun’s father explains length of Everton forward’s injury lay-off

Cenk Tosun’s father has confirmed that the Everton forward will be out for the foreseeable future following his recent injury.

Tosun suffered a knee ligament injury while playing for Besiktas against BB Erzurumspor, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

The 29-year old had joined the Black Eagles in January, having fallen down the pecking order at Goodison Park.

Tosun recently underwent surgery on the injured knee and his father, Senol Tosun, has revealed how long he could expect to remain on the sidelines.

As reported by Turkish outlet TumSpor, Senol Tosun said: “The surgery went very well.

“They said he could return to the field after 6-7 months. Cenk is very strong. Look, he started working right after the surgery. Cenk was very upset, of course, but he’s stronger than any of us.

Senol Tosun also confirmed that Everton had reviewed the hospital where Cenk Tosun received his surgery, with the forward now set to remain in Turkey as he recovers.

Everton

Disappointing to hear

First and foremost, the length of Tosun’s injury is incredibly frustrating for the player. Tosun will now miss the upcoming European Championships and the injury threatens to completely disrupt next season for him.

From Everton’s perspective it is equally frustrating, with the Blues unable to shift him off the wage bill while he carries such an injury.

The Blues need to reduce their wage bill if they are to spend lavishly in the summer, and those extra wages could prove pivotal if Everton are to recruit with European football in mind, but Tosun’s injury could prove problematic on that front.

The Turkey international has poor recent injury record, having suffered a disappointing season-ending injury while performing well during a recent loan spell with Crystal Palace.

With Everton having given Tosun’s medical attention the go-ahead it can be assumed that he’s receiving the best care in Turkey, and now we just need to hope for the sake of all parties that he recovers quickly and that he recovers well.
