‘Starting to click’ – Davies credits Ancelotti influence for helping him settle
Everton midfielder Tom Davies has credited Carlo Ancelotti for helping him find his place at Goodison Park this season.
The 22-year old has become a vital player under the Italian coach this season having played regularly for the Blues, mostly in a defensive midfield role, since Allan’s injury in December.
Before that though Davies had cut a divisive figure on Merseyside, with a number of Everton supporters certain to slate his performances on a regular basis.
The England Under-21s international has become a much more consistent performer this season, and he has credited Ancelotti for instilling in him the knowledge to succeed for the Toffees.
Talking to Sky Sports, Davies said: “I was still figuring out myself and how I played and the manager came in at the perfect time for me really. I needed that bit of guidance and knowledge about football, which he’s got in abundance.
“Obviously being a midfielder himself he’s shown me just how simple he makes the game and it makes things so much easier for me, know which positions to be in and how to use the ball effectively, and it’s sort of like things are just starting to click and that’s down to his guidance really.
“I’ve still got a lot of development to do and things I want to achieve in my career but if I can keep my work rate up with the guidance of him then I’m sure I can reach those places.”
Best is yet to come
Davies has certainly developed into a very useful squad player under Carlo Ancelotti this season, and if we didn’t have him at our disposal we would be in much worse shape right now.
Described by Ancelotti as an ‘intelligent‘ player, Davies has shown his worth this season by filling in marvellously during Allan’s two-month injury absence, becoming an invaluable player on Merseyside through consistent performance levels.
Furthermore it has been shown that with Davies playing in a deeper role Everton are able to better utilise the technical strengths of Allan when the duo play together, which is another sizeable bonus.
Ancelotti often receives credit for what he has been able to do for Everton in the transfer market. His name and his reputation allow the club to pursue better calibre players, and that of course helps the club in the long-run.
However the Italian’s actual coaching ability often goes uncredited, which is a crime given how prestigious and successful his career has been.
Davies has developed under Ancelotti because Ancelotti is a next level coach, and his work with the Englishman can only bode well for how he might develop more young talent for the Toffees down the line.
