Kevin Campbell doesn’t feel Everton missing Europe would be disastrous

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell doesn’t believe it would be a disaster if Everton weren’t to qualify for European football this season.

The Blues have been within touching distance of the European places for much of the season, however five games in the Premier League without a win has put qualification in doubt.

Everton are still set to face difficult opposition in Arsenal, West Ham and Manchester City before the end of the season, making their pursuit of Europe even tougher.

When asked whether missing out on Europe would be disastrous for Everton this season, speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said: “I don’t think it would be a disaster. It would be a really good progression chance missed if they didn’t [qualify for Europe], but it wouldn’t be a disaster.

“Throughout the season you can see they’ve underperformed, and the key to every team who have ambition is to be consistent.

“You look at the teams above who have more established squads and bigger squads, and I think Everton, if they’re going to get into Europe, they’re pushing above their weight.”

Missing out on European football might not be disastrous for Everton, but it will certainly prove disappointing.

Ancelotti was brought to Merseyside to propel Everton into the Champions League, and should they qualify for the Europa League they could establish a platform on which to continue building.

Everton’s transfer plans will be hampered without European football, while top talent such as Moise Kean could prove difficult to keep without the promise of continental competition.
