Leon Osman thrilled by Sigurdsson’s performance v Tottenham
Match of the Day pundit Leon Osman was blown away by Gylfi Sigurdsson’s performance for Everton in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham.
The 31-year-old scored both goals, the second of which was a tricky half-volley on his weaker foot that he tucked into the far corner.
Osman was particularly impressed with that goal, and he was full of praise for the Icelandic in his analysis of the match.
Appearing on BBC’s Match of the Day, Osman said, “Gylfi Sigurdsson was particularly good, that is a wonderful goal and an incredible finish.”
New lease of life?
Sigurdsson’s overall performance was a very positive one and much better than what we have seen from him in recent weeks.
Per WhoScored, the midfielder made four key passes and created chances for the likes of Richarlison.
He linked up well with James Rodriguez and the Toffees were free-flowing, an aspect of our game that has been missing at home in recent matches.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s absence may have played a part in that change, but Sigurdsson was central to the style and we need him to continue showing that type of performance.
He has often underperformed in an Everton shirt and has been subject to criticism this season as a result.
Kevin Campbell told Goodison News last month that Sigurdsson ought to be sold, suggesting Ancelotti’s side are better when he is not in the team.
“Siggy’s been there a while now and the team are better without him in there so Ancelotti will recoup what he can and I’m sure he’s got a few players lined up to replace him,” said Campbell.
However, Sigurdsson showed against Spurs that he is capable of making a valuable contribution to the side, and if he can continue running from deep and linking up with Richarlison and Rodriguez he has a future at Goodison.
In other Everton news, Galatasary want to sign an Everton speedster with 2.9 dribbles per game this season.
