Brother of Everton forward Kean puts Goodison Park return in doubt

Giovanni Kean, brother of Everton striker Moise Kean, believes it will be ‘difficult’ for him to return to Goodison Park ahead of next season.

The Italy international joined Paris Saint-Germain on a season-long loan deal last summer after struggling for minutes on Merseyside, quickly becoming an important player for the Ligue 1 outfit.

PSG have become determined to sign Kean on a permanent deal once the transfer window opens this summer, with the Parisians willing to sell forward Mauro Icardi to fund the move.

Juventus have also been linked with a move for their former forward, who they sold to Everton for £25million in 2019.

Quoted by TuttoMercatoWeb, Giovanni Kean hopes that his brother returns to Turin this summer, conceding that a return to Everton doesn’t seem likely.

He said: “Let’s say that it seems difficult for him to return to Everton, despite the card being owned by the English, and I assure you that at PSG he is very comfortable. Then in football you never know, anything can happen.

“As a Juventus fan, I hope Moise will return to Juventus. At the right moment my brother and Raiola will choose the best option.

“Would Moise have been convenient for Andrea Pirlo? Surely. But, apart from my brother, from the outside it seems to me that this year the enthusiasm of the years of great triumphs has been lacking.”

Choice to make

Kean’s future may be up in the air, but we’d be surprised if he didn’t end up with PSG by the time the transfer window draws to a close.

Though the Italian wasn’t given as many opportunities by Everton as he perhaps might have liked, the forward never settled on Merseyside and an exit last summer always seemed inevitable.

Now that he’s doing so well in Paris, playing regularly in both the league and the Champions League, Kean isn’t likely to give that up for a club who might not yet qualify for any European football.

Of course the recent announcement of the European Super League complicates matters, particularly concerning Juventus’ prospects of signing Kean.

However as things stand we don’t know how that terrible situation is going to pan out.

Going off what we know and what we’ve seen this season, it almost seems like a foregone conclusion that Kean will re-sign for PSG and Everton will make a sizeable profit on their investment.
