Karen Carney slams Richarlison effort in Everton clash v Arsenal

Karen Carney has taken aim at Everton forward Richarlison after the first half of the Premier League clash against Arsenal this evening.

The 23-year-old came into the game without a goal in his previous six matches and he would have been desperate to impress from the off at the Emirates Stadium.

But he didn’t impress Carney with his early movement as she expressed her shock at what she perceived to be a lazy piece of play.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live during the game she said: “It’s a common theme when Everton give away possession Carlo Ancelotti usually shows his anger [with hand gestures].

“I haven’t mentioned Richarlison yet. That [a run] in his first action. Wow.”

Not impressed

Richarlison is actually one of our most tireless performers so we think Carney has been a bit harsh here, especially given how early it was into proceedings.

But she’s right in that Ancelotti doesn’t stand for people standing on their heels and not offering themselves.

Everyone has to pull their weight under him and that’s the case for the forward line who are supposed to be the first line of defence and offer passing options at all times.

He did nearly score later in the half, having a shot well saved by Bernd Leno, so perhaps it was a case of just getting warmed up into the match.

The Brazilian was on fire before his lean recent run, scoring four in four, so he will be chomping at the bit to break his duck against Arsenal and get back on the goal trail.
