Everton have been offered the chance to sign Atletico’s Kieran Trippier
Everton have been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Tripper, according to the Daily Mail.
The defender’s contract expires in the summer of 2022 and since he has been offered to the Toffees he could be available on a good deal.
Everton are in the hunt for a right-back but according to the Mail they favour Norwich’s Max Aarons over England international Trippier, who is 30.
But with several clubs chasing Aarons, including Manchester United [The Express], Everton may look to sign Trippier as an alternative.
Shrewd business
Aarons seems a very talented and highly-rated prospect but we would favour the signing of Trippier.
Seamus Coleman will have a reduced role on the pitch next season but if we land Trippier we will still have an experienced player at right-back.
Like Coleman, Tripper has played at international level but is also accomplished in the Champions League, helping Tottenham reach the final in 2019.
He is exactly the type of player we need to bring in to make the next step to become a European outfit.
Emile Heskey described him as ‘phenomenal’ in 2019 [Sky Sports via HITC] and it seems Trippier has not lost his touch.
He continues to get in the England team and has helped Atletico to the top of the La Liga table this term.
Last November he also helped to keep Lionel Messi quiet as Atletico beat Barcelona 1-0.
The full-back made one tackle and two interceptions in that match [WhoScored], stopping the likes of Messi and Antoine Griezmann from finding a way through.
Trippier would be an upgrade on Coleman, therefore, and perhaps a better option than the somewhat unproven Aarons.
