Ex-Everton forward Bent claims Toffees should target Ismaila Sarr
Former Everton forward Marcus Bent believes that the club should look no further than Watford forward Ismaila Sarr in their hunt for a winger this summer.
The Toffees are on the market for a wide player as they look to improve their squad depth in that position ahead of what could promise to be a busy season, if the club can achieve qualification to the Europa League.
James Rodriguez has often been relied upon to play in a wide position this season, a position he isn’t overly familiar with, while Bernard and Alex Iwobi have largely unimpressed.
Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, Bent believes that Everton should consider moving for Sarr, who was tentatively linked with the club following Watford’s relegation to the Championship.
Talking about Everton’s chances of signing Sarr, Bent said: “He’s stayed at Watford and he’s scored a load of goals and got them promoted.
“He’s on the rise, but he’s coming to an age where he’s showing maturity about his game. Being promoted, he’s still buzzing, playing in the Premier League, and he’s done really well.
“I think that would be a good move for him and Everton.”
Great deal
Still just 23-years old, Ismaila Sarr perfectly fits the profile of players Everton are looking to sign this summer.
Not only is he youthful and brimming with potential, he is also someone who could come in and make an immediate impact at Goodison Park, with the winger one of Watford’s best players when they were last in the Premier League.
Labelled a “fantastic” player by Liverpool legend John Barnes in January following speculation linking the Reds with an interest, Sarr would have no shortage of interested clubs if he was to leave the Hornets this summer.
The Senegal international has 13 goals and 10 assists to his name in the Championship this season, and as he continues to grow and mature he’s only going to become more effective.
Everton desperately need a winger, and they want to sign a marquee player who can succeed with the club in the long-term. Though he might prove expensive this summer, Sarr perfectly fits the bill for what the club want and need.
